Yacht Charter Sifnos
Greek charter's food destination. Cycladic island that's quieter than Paros and serves better food than most of Mykonos.
Why Sifnos
Sifnos is **the Cyclades' food island**. Greek charter veterans know that Sifnos has produced more Greek chefs per capita than any other Aegean island, and the local cuisine (specifically the **chickpea soup baked overnight, the mastelo lamb, the local cheese**) has shaped modern Greek fine dining. The **chora of Apollonia** and the **harbour of Kamares** are both yacht-friendly, the **west coast cliffs** at Vroulidia and Cherronisos are some of the quietest Cycladic anchorages, and the **walking trails** between villages (4-6 km each, well-maintained, dotted with churches) offer a quieter shore experience than any other Cycladic island. From a yacht perspective, Sifnos works as a 2-3 day stop on a Cycladic loop or as a primary destination for charterers who care about food more than scene.

When to Visit Sifnos
May to October active. Sifnos has minimal mass tourism even in peak August; the food scene is sophisticated year-round but at its peak in June and September when the local produce is at its best. Meltemi can be strong at the harbour of Kamares (July-August); anchorages on the leeward east coast (Faros, Platis Gialos) stay calm.
George's Insider Tips for Sifnos
- Eat at Omega3 in Platis Gialos — modern Cycladic cuisine, easily the best meal on the island.
- Cherronisos (north coast) — small anchorage, single excellent taverna (Margarita's), one of the quietest evening experiences in the Cyclades.
- Apollonia chora is best at dusk. Park the tender at Kamares harbour, taxi up (15 minutes), walk the chora streets, dinner at To Liotrivi.
- The Mastelo lamb dish at Lebesis (Artemonas) is the food experience repeat clients ask to return for.
- Kastro on the east coast is the oldest village on Sifnos. 2-hour walk along the cliffs from Apollonia, or 30-minute drive. Worth a half-day.
Frequently Asked
About chartering in Sifnos
Is Sifnos worth a full charter day?
Yes, especially for food-focused charters. 2-3 days is the right allocation as part of a Cycladic loop. Sifnos alone for a full week is possible but most charters combine with Milos, Serifos, or Folegandros for variety.
Where do yachts anchor at Sifnos?
Kamares is the main harbour (sheltered, north-west coast). Platis Gialos on the south-east coast is the secondary anchorage. Vroulidia and Cherronisos on the north for quieter overnight stays.
What's special about Sifnos food?
Sifnos has historically been Greece's source of professional chefs. Local cuisine is characterised by overnight-baked dishes (revithada chickpeas, mastelo lamb), strong cheese tradition (manoura, xinomyzithra), and the highest concentration of fine traditional cooking in the Cyclades. Modern Sifnian cuisine (Omega3, Cantina) builds on this base.
How crowded is Sifnos in August?
Much less than Mykonos, Paros, or Santorini. Sifnos has limited mass-tourism infrastructure and the visitors who come are usually returning food-focused travelers. Yacht charter anchorages are consistently uncrowded.
Can we combine Sifnos with Milos?
Yes — they are 25 nm apart and natural pairing destinations. Common pattern: Sifnos (food, chora), Milos (volcanic anchorages, beaches), as a 4-5 day component of a longer Cycladic charter.
