Frequently asked

About this charter type

Do I need to know how to sail?

No. On a crewed sailing yacht the captain and crew handle every part of the sailing, and guests can be entirely passengers. If you want to take the helm, the captain will put you on it in sheltered water and teach as you go; if you want to sit under the bimini with a book while the boat heels gently, that is the week too.

How much does a luxury sailing yacht charter in Greece cost?

Per yacht per week before VAT and APA: the crewed 24 to 31 metre sailing yachts on the Greek Charter Index 2026 run EUR 24,000 to 55,000. Named, from each yacht's own rate card: Gigreca EUR 24,000 to 29,900, MELITI EUR 26,500, Aizu EUR 33,000 to 39,000, Nadamas EUR 35,000 to 41,000, Huayra EUR 44,000 to 49,000, BLACK LION EUR 50,000 to 55,000. Add VAT at 5.2 to 12% by the yacht's certification, APA of 20 to 30% of the base, and a customary 10 to 15% crew gratuity on the base. A EUR 30,000 base week lands around EUR 38,000 to 43,000 all-in before gratuity.

Sailing yacht or motor yacht for the same length?

On the Index a crewed sailing yacht of 24 to 31 metres runs EUR 24,000 to 55,000 a week, a motor yacht of 26 to 31 metres EUR 35,900 to 75,000, and the sailing yacht's APA is 20 to 30% of the base against 30 to 40% for the motor yacht, because the diesel line is a fraction. What you give up under sail is speed between islands and interior volume, since the rig and the keel take the space a motor yacht gives to saloons. What you gain is the reason people charter a sailing yacht: the week is the sailing.

Ionian or Cyclades for a sailing charter?

Ionian for relaxed and family sailing: sheltered from the Meltemi, calm water, and passages of 20 to 50 miles between Corfu, Paxos, Lefkada and Ithaca, with all-weather anchorages like Vlicho Bay on Lefkada, 5 to 7 metres over mud. Cyclades for charterers who want the wind: the Meltemi blows hardest through the central islands on July and August afternoons, and a 24 metre and larger sailing yacht or catamaran carries it well when the passages are planned for the mornings.

Sailing yacht or sailing catamaran?

The monohull heels and sails; the catamaran stays level and sails. A family with young children, or a group that wants the table set at anchor with no roll, chooses the catamaran, from EUR 17,000 a week at 15 metres to EUR 90,000 at 24 metres on the Index. A group that wants the feel of a real sailing yacht, a classic deck and a keel under them, chooses the monohull. The five named above all carry a chef and a stewardess; so do the crewed catamarans from 16 metres up.

How many guests can a crewed sailing yacht take in Greece?

The 24 to 31 metre sailing yachts we represent sleep six to nine guests in three or four cabins with three or four crew: Huayra, Aizu, Nadamas and Gigreca take eight, MELITI takes six, BLACK LION nine. For a larger party the 23 to 24 metre sailing catamarans carry ten to twelve guests in five or six cabins.

When is the best time for a sailing charter in Greece?

May, June and September for sailing that is warm without the strongest wind, and those months also price 15 to 25% below peak on the Index and need three to four months of lead time rather than a year. July and August bring the Meltemi to the Cyclades, which is the point for some sailors and the reason we route families to the Ionian. Late September and October in the Saronic and the Ionian are the quiet value weeks.

How far ahead should I book a sailing yacht for July or August?

Six to twelve months on the Greek Charter Index, and the six named sailing yachts here are few enough that a fixed July or August week should be treated as a same-week decision when the yacht is free. June and September hold availability closer in, at softer rates for the same yacht.
