What a Greek yacht charter actually costs in 2026
Season multipliers and the four-bucket cost model
Peak (15 July - 31 August): 1.0× multiplier, full peak rate. High (15 June - 14 July, 1-15 September): 0.85×, 15% discount. Same weather, same destinations, materially better pricing. Shoulder (May, 1-14 June, 16-30 September): 0.70×, 30% discount. Water 19-22°C, anchorages quiet. Off-peak (April, October): 0.55×, 45% discount. Water cooler, weather less predictable, materially lower rates. The four cost buckets (always quoted separately): • Charter Base: the yacht + crew + insurance + base-marina mooring. The headline number. • APA (20-40% of base by yacht type): trust-held float for fuel, food, beverages, port fees, intermediate-marina dockage. Unused APA refunded post-charter; overages billed. • Greek VAT (at the yacht's certified rate, 5.2-13%): on the charter base. Short, static or bareboat arrangements carry 24%. APA is NOT VAT-able. • Crew gratuity (10-15% of base, 12.5% typical): customary not contractual; paid in cash or wire directly to the captain at end of week. Greece sits in the sweet spot - Mediterranean-class destination at meaningfully lower total cost than France.
Hidden costs charterers miss
- The APA can run over, and then you top it up mid-week. It is a float, not a cap: if the account empties on day five the captain will ask for more before he refuels. Fund it honestly at the start rather than discover this in Milos.
- Repositioning, if you start or finish away from the yacht's home base. A yacht based in Athens that you want to board in Corfu has to get there, and someone pays for that passage. We quote it before you sign, never as a line at settlement.
- The security deposit, on skippered and bareboat arrangements. Held against damage, returned after the hand-back inspection. Fully crewed charters usually carry none, because the crew is responsible for the yacht.
- Marina berths you choose rather than need. A night alongside in Mykonos in August can cost several hundred Euro for a large yacht, and it comes out of your APA. A week that anchors most nights spends materially less than one that berths.
- Greek VAT is not one number. It follows the yacht's certification, which is why quotes differ: 5.2%, 6.5%, 7.8% or 12% on certified commercial yachts, against a statutory ceiling of 13%, and 24% for short, static or bareboat arrangements. Ask which rate applies to the specific yacht before you compare two quotes.
- The crew gratuity is separate from everything else. Customary at 10 to 15%, calculated on the base fee alone and never on the total, handed to the captain at the end of the week. It is not in the base, not in the APA, and not contractual, but it is part of the real cost of the week.
- TEPAI, the Greek cruising tax, is the owner's obligation and not yours. Some operators try to pass it on. On a properly written commercial charter it does not reach the charterer.
- Travel and cancellation cover. Not part of any charter contract. The MYBA cancellation terms are firm and the deposit is at risk from the day you sign, so the cover is worth pricing at the same time as the yacht.
- Pre-charter and post-charter hotel nights, and the transfers between airport and marina. Nobody includes these and everybody needs them.
- The genuinely optional tier, for completeness: shore catering for an event aboard, helicopter time on yachts with a helipad, cellar wines beyond standard provisioning, event production ashore. All real, all quoted separately, and none of them a surprise unless you ask for them.

What does 'all-in' actually include?

Is the 12.5% gratuity negotiable?
Customary range is 10-15%. 12.5% is the midpoint most repeat charterers settle on. Below 10% sends a signal to the captain network. Above 15% reserves a specific crew for next year.
Can I get a yacht for under €30K all-in?
Yes - shoulder-season catamaran or sailing yacht weeks in Lefkada/Corfu Ionian for 4-6 guests. May / September catamaran 12m base €15K, APA €5K, VAT €1.8K, gratuity €1.9K = €23.7K. Cheapest credible Greek charter format.
How much does a yacht charter from Athens cost in 2026?
The same as anywhere in Greece - the water carries no Athens premium. Crewed sailing catamarans run EUR 10,900-22,000 per week at 12-16m and EUR 31,500-43,500 at 20-22m, crewed motor yachts EUR 17,500-33,000 at 18-24m and EUR 40,000-65,000 at 26-31m, plus APA and Greek VAT at the yacht's certified rate. The Athens advantage is logistical: most of the professional fleet is based at Alimos, Flisvos and Lavrion, so an Athens embarkation usually avoids the delivery fee that island starts can carry, making it often the cheapest place to begin a charter.
How much does a day yacht charter in Greece cost?
Day charters price per day, not per week, and all-in day rates on crewed motor yachts and catamarans around Athens and the islands typically run in the four figures, with fuel for longer runs the main variable. Note the tax difference: charters of 48 hours or less carry Greek VAT at the standard 24%, unlike the reduced certified rates (5.2-12%) that weekly crewed charters enjoy - one reason a 3-day mini-charter often prices better per day than a single day.

How much does a motor yacht charter in Greece cost in 2026?
Mid-range motor yachts (Princess, Azimut, Ferretti) run €1,800 per metre per week at peak: a 26-metre comes to roughly €46,800 base, or €73,800 all-in once APA, VAT and crew gratuity are added. Premium builds (Benetti, Heesen, Custom Line) run €2,400 per metre per week. High-season weeks outside 15 July to 31 August price about 15% lower; May and late September run 30% below peak.
How much does a yacht charter from Athens cost?
Athens (Alimos Marina) is Greece's main charter base, so there is no delivery surcharge.
