What a Greek yacht charter actually costs in 2026
Season multipliers and the four-bucket cost model
Peak (15 July - 31 August): 1.0× multiplier, full peak rate. High (15 June - 14 July, 1-15 September): 0.85×, 15% discount. Same weather, same destinations, materially better pricing. Shoulder (May, 1-14 June, 16-30 September): 0.70×, 30% discount. Water 19-22°C, anchorages quiet. Off-peak (April, October): 0.55×, 45% discount. Water cooler, weather less predictable, materially lower rates. The four cost buckets (always quoted separately): • Charter Base: the yacht + crew + insurance + base-marina mooring. The headline number. • APA (30-35% of base): trust-held float for fuel, food, beverages, port fees, intermediate-marina dockage. Unused APA refunded post-charter; overages billed. • Greek VAT (12% on base): for charters operating primarily in Greek waters. 24% rate triggers for charters with significant non-Greek cruising time. APA is NOT VAT-able. • Crew gratuity (15-20% of base, 17.5% typical): customary not contractual; paid in cash or wire directly to the captain at end of week. Greek waters vs French Riviera vs Croatia (peak-week pricing for equivalent 30m motor yacht): Greece €78K base (+12% VAT = €87K), French Riviera €95K base (+20% VAT = €114K), Croatia €68K base (+13% VAT = €77K). Greece sits in the sweet spot - Mediterranean-class destination at meaningfully lower total cost than France.
Hidden costs charterers miss
- Pre-charter and post-charter hotel nights: not in the charter cost. Athens hotel pre-board + Mykonos hotel post-disembark adds €2K-€8K depending on tier.
- Ground transfers airport-to-marina: not in base. Budget €200-€500 per transfer for high-end SUV service.
- Special-occasion provisioning: a wedding-on-yacht reception requires shore catering on top of yacht chef. €150-€400 per guest. Brief George at booking.
- Helicopter time (if yacht has helipad): not in base. Greek helipad operations require HCAA pre-flight notification; typical cost €4-12K per round trip.
- Premium wines / sommelier-curated cellar: APA covers standard provisioning; trophy-wine selections (€500+ per bottle) require pre-charter brief and APA top-up.
- Custom outfitters / event production / private DJ: shore-vendor coordination, not in yacht price. George coordinates referrals.
Frequently asked
About yacht charter greece 2026: complete pricing guide
What does 'all-in' actually include?
Base + APA + VAT + crew gratuity. Excludes pre-/post-charter accommodation, personal travel insurance, shore-based excursions the charterer arranges directly, premium toys not standard on the yacht, and personal mobile-phone roaming.
Is the 17.5% gratuity negotiable?
Customary range is 15-20%. 17.5% is the midpoint most repeat charterers settle on. Below 15% sends a signal to the captain network. Above 20% reserves a specific crew for next year.
Can I get a yacht for under €30K all-in?
Yes - shoulder-season catamaran or sailing yacht weeks in Lefkada/Corfu Ionian for 4-6 guests. May / September catamaran 12m base €15K, APA €5K, VAT €1.8K, gratuity €2.6K = €24K. Cheapest credible Greek charter format.
How does TEPAI factor in?
TEPAI is the annual Greek yacht hull-length-based tax. Owner pays, not charterer. Most owners pre-pay it as part of their operating cost; should NEVER appear as a separate line on a charterer's invoice. See /tepai-tax-greece-yacht-charter-2026.
Why is the Cost Estimator tool different from this guide?
The estimator at /charter-cost-estimator lets you tweak yacht type, length, and season in real time. This guide is the underlying pricing model the estimator uses. Same numbers, two formats.
