How does kosher food actually work on a charter yacht?
Three proven formats, in rising order of strictness: sealed glatt kosher meals prepared under rabbinic supervision in Athens and delivered to the yacht (works everywhere, 3-5 days notice); the yacht's chef cooking exclusively kosher ingredients with disposable or dedicated equipment; or a fully koshered galley arranged for the week with your rabbi's guidance. We agree the format in writing before you board.
Is there kosher infrastructure in the Greek islands?
More than most travellers expect. Chabad of Greece operates houses in Athens, Thessaloniki, Crete and Rhodes, and Chabad of Mykonos runs an active house with kosher catering and a kosher shop. Glatt kosher meals prepared in Athens are delivered across Greece, including Mykonos and Santorini.
Can we keep Shabbat properly on board?
Yes, and it is one of the most beautiful Shabbats you will ever keep. The itinerary is built so the yacht is moored or anchored before candle-lighting on Friday and does not cruise until after havdalah. Meals are prepared in advance, and if you want a minyan, we position the yacht at Mykonos or Athens for walking access to Chabad.
How close is Greece for Israeli guests?
Athens is roughly a 2-hour nonstop from Tel Aviv, with around 50 direct flights a week on EL AL, Aegean, Arkia, Israir and others. It is the closest world-class charter destination to Israel - closer than the French Riviera, the Balearics or the Caribbean by a wide margin.
Do the crews understand kosher and Shabbat requirements?
The crews we place on these charters are briefed in writing before you board: what enters the galley, what stays sealed, which equipment is yours alone, and what does not happen between Friday sunset and Saturday night. You should never have to explain your own standards twice on your own holiday.
When should we book a kosher charter?
Earlier than a standard charter. Peak-season yachts commit months ahead, and the kosher layer adds caterer scheduling on top. For July-August, reserve by late winter; the 2027 calendars are already open and early reservations take first pick of yacht and week.
