The largest Dodecanese island. Medieval walled town, Lindos acropolis, the bridge to the Turkish Aegean.

Why Rhodes

Rhodes is **Greek charter's gateway to the Dodecanese and the Turkish Aegean**. It sits at the south-eastern edge of Greek waters, 11 nm from the Turkish coast, and is the natural starting point for charters that want to explore the eastern islands (Symi, Patmos, Kos) or cross into Turkish waters for the Bodrum-Marmaris loop. The **Old Town** is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe (UNESCO-listed since 1988), the **Lindos acropolis** is a 30-minute drive from Rhodes town and one of the most photographed archaeological sites in Greece, and the **Anthony Quinn Bay** anchorage on the east coast is a cinematic stop. From a yacht perspective, Rhodes works as a base for 7-14 day Dodecanese charters or as a one-way endpoint after a Cyclades-to-Dodecanese itinerary from Athens.

When to Visit Rhodes

Rhodes has the longest charter season in Greek waters - May through late October are all viable, with September and early October offering the warmest water in the country (24-26°C) and the gentlest weather. The meltemi reaches Rhodes in July-August but is meaningfully softer here than in the central Cyclades.

George's Insider Tips for Rhodes

  • Anchor at Mandraki harbour for the Old Town view; sleep at Anthony Quinn Bay or Faliraki for quieter water.
  • Lindos by car at dawn (07:00) is the magic time. Avoid the cruise-ship arrival window 10:00-15:00.
  • Symi day-trip from Rhodes is 90 minutes each way. Worth it - Symi is one of the most beautiful harbours in Greece.
  • Turkish cross-charter to Bodrum or Marmaris from Rhodes is 4-6 hours. Brief us 6 weeks ahead if you want this.
  • Lindos has a few fine-dining restaurants. Mavrikos for traditional, Melenos for the rooftop view at sunset.

Frequently Asked

About chartering in Rhodes

Where does a yacht charter typically start in Rhodes?

Mandraki marina in Rhodes town is the standard departure port. Faliraki and Lindos are also possible boarding points for yachts repositioned.

Can we combine Rhodes with Turkish coast charter?

Yes. Rhodes to Bodrum or Marmaris is 4-6 hours by yacht. Cross-charter requires Turkish entry paperwork (6 weeks lead time) but is a popular pattern. We coordinate.

What's the best Dodecanese itinerary from Rhodes?

Common 7-day loop: Rhodes-Symi-Tilos-Nisyros-Kos-Patmos-back to Rhodes. About 180 nm total. The Symi and Patmos anchorages are the highlights.

Is Rhodes too touristy for a luxury charter?

The Old Town and main beaches are tourist-dense, yes. But the yacht charter experience anchors away from the crowds - Anthony Quinn Bay, the south coast, Symi day trips. A Rhodes-based charter feels meaningfully more private than a hotel stay in Rhodes town.

When is the best time to charter from Rhodes?

Late May to mid-July for fewer crowds and reliable weather; mid-September to mid-October for the warmest water of the year. August is busy but yacht charters still operate comfortably.
