The base rate covers the yacht, the crew and insurance; APA of 20 to 40% by type covers fuel, food, drink and berths; Greek VAT applies at the certified rate; gratuity of 10 to 15% of base is at your discretion.

Why every 2026 charter we represent is crewed

George Yachts only handles crewed charters. We don't broker bareboat. The reason is simple: a crewed week is a categorically different product, and we want our clients to experience the full luxury yacht-charter format. Bareboat charters serve sailing-experienced clients on a budget; they have their place but they're a different business. Crewed yacht charter means a full crew lives on the boat for your week: minimum captain plus chef, scaling up to nine or ten crew on the 45 to 50 metre yachts. The captain handles all navigation, sailing, anchoring, and itinerary management. The chef provides 3 meals daily, restaurant-tier on yachts above 25 metres. The hostess/chief stewardess runs cabin service, social rhythm, and guest interactions. For 2026, the crewed fleet on the Greek Charter Index runs from 12 to 16 metre sailing catamarans at EUR 17,000 to 22,000 a week net base, with captain and cook aboard, to the yachts above 50 metres at EUR 162,500 to 235,000 with nine or more crew. The unifying standard: MYBA-standard contracts, IYBA broker representation, full insurance and regulatory compliance, and George's personal vetting of every captain and crew a client is placed with.

When to book your 2026 crewed charter

On the Greek Charter Index 2026 peak weeks (July and August) book 6 to 12 months ahead, and a year or more for the yachts above 40 metres. Shoulder months (May, June, September, early October) list 15 to 25% below peak and are usually available 3 to 6 months out. Late availability exists most seasons; the yacht choice narrows and any reduction is the owner's decision, quoted per yacht.

Crew is included in base rate. Gratuity (10-15% convention) is paid separately at end in cash.
Crews are vetted by us as the broker - we have working relationships with each captain in the fleet.
Chef-led galleys deliver restaurant-tier meals on yachts above 25 metres. Below that, the captain or hostess often doubles up.
First-time charterers benefit from a captain with many charter seasons behind him and the patience to explain the day. Brief us at booking; we match.
Multi-week charters keep the same crew throughout. Crew rotation only between separate charters, not during.

What's included in a crewed yacht charter?

Base rate covers the yacht, crew, insurance, and routine maintenance. APA (paid separately, 20-40% of base rate by yacht type) covers fuel, food, drinks, dockage, and other running costs. Crew gratuity (10-15% at end) is separate.

What does the crew do?

Captain handles navigation, anchoring, sailing or motor-yacht operation, and itinerary recommendations. Chef provides 3 meals daily. Hostess/chief stewardess runs cabin service, table service, social rhythm. Deckhands and engineers (on larger yachts) handle technical operations.

Do I tip the crew?

Yes. Convention is 10-15% of base rate, paid in cash to the captain on the final day. The captain distributes to crew. For a EUR 60,000 base-rate week: EUR 6,000 to 9,000.

Can guests participate in sailing?

Yes, on sailing yachts. The crew encourages guests who want to learn (winch handling, helm time, basics of trim). Brief at day-one captain conversation.

How does APA work?

Advance Provisioning Allowance. Paid up front. The MYBA contract sets the mechanism, not the rate: in practice 20% of base on a sailing yacht to 40% on a motor yacht. Runs as a transparent account during the charter for fuel/food/drinks/dockage. Unused balance refunded at end; if charter runs heavier than budgeted, balance is topped up.

Do you arrange yacht trips in Greece by the day, or only by the week?

By the week. Every yacht trip this house writes is a crewed charter of seven nights or longer, boarding at Athens, Lefkada or Corfu, and the five-night Saronic week from Athens is the shortest programme. Day trips and skippered hires exist in Greece through other operators, at 24% VAT, and we do not broker them.

Can we see the yacht before we commit?

Yes. Sixty-six of the ninety-one yachts on the list carry a walkthrough video on their own page, filmed aboard, deck by deck, and every page carries the rate card, the crew and the layout. For the rest we send the owner's photographs and, where the yacht is in Athens, arrange a visit.
