A little. Zero-speed systems run off the generator, so a stabilised yacht burns slightly more at anchor with them on. The cost sits inside the APA, 30 to 40% of the base on a motor yacht, and is small against a week's passages; the comfort gain is not small.

We confirm the exact system with the owner's office before any of them goes on a shortlist, because the fit and its condition are facts about one hull, not about a class.

Often, and it is worth asking exactly what was fitted and when. A yacht refitted in the last few years may carry a zero-speed system that works at anchor; an older fin system steadies the yacht under way but does much less at anchor, which is where a family feels the roll at night. On the list above, PROJECT STEEL was refitted in 2020, PAREAKI II in 2023, NAIA in 2024 and SUMMER FUN in 2026.

At anchor in a reasonable lee, yes: that is what a zero-speed system is for, and it is the difference between a Cyclades night in August that is remembered for the stars and one remembered for the rolling. When the wind is severe the captain moves the yacht into shelter regardless, and the Cyclades have plenty of it on the south sides of the islands. Under way, stabilisers steady the ride but do not change the plan: long passages are still done in the morning calm.

Add VAT at 5.2 to 12% by certification, APA of 30 to 40%, and a customary 10 to 15% crew gratuity on the base. The stabilisers do not change the rate card; the size does.

Both work, differently. A catamaran barely rolls to begin with, needs no system, draws little and costs less to run, from EUR 17,000 a week; it is the answer for a family in the Ionian or the Saronic. A stabilised motor yacht is the answer when the party wants the Cyclades in high summer, more interior volume and a larger crew, because the stabilisers keep the anchorage still while the hull carries the afternoon sea.

Where the others hesitate: the Cyclades in July and August. Mykonos, Paros, Milos and Sifnos, with passages in the morning calm and the stabilisers holding the anchorage still in the afternoon Meltemi. In May, June and September the wind is softer and the same yachts price 15 to 25% below peak on the Index. The Ionian and the Saronic are sheltered from the Meltemi entirely, and there the stabilisers are a luxury rather than a necessity.

Six to twelve months for July and August on the Greek Charter Index. Eight named hulls is a short list, and the twelve-berth ones on it are asked for by large groups first; treat a fixed August week on any of them as a same-week decision when the yacht is free.
