How to Choose a Crewed Yacht Charter Broker in Greece

Five things to ask any broker before the yacht: the contract, the APA, the VAT, who you will be speaking with, and how many yachts come back.

Last updated September 2026

Why these five, and not the brochure

The contract and the money come first. A crewed week in Greece is a contract with a private owner for a yacht, a crew and seven nights. The MYBA Charter Agreement is the form every serious house in the Mediterranean writes on; it fixes how the deposit is held, how the APA account is kept and what happens if the yacht cannot sail. A broker who writes on anything else, or who asks for a transfer to a personal account, has answered the question for you. The APA and the VAT tell you whether the broker has done the work. The APA is not a surcharge; it is your running account for the week, and a broker who has run the route knows that a Saronic week spends the low end and a Mykonos loop the high end. The VAT belongs to the yacht, not to the broker, and sits on her certificate; a proposal that prints it next to her name was written by someone who has read the certificate. "Plus expenses" and "VAT to be confirmed" are the two phrases that end a conversation at this desk. Who, and how many. Ask who will be on the quay on the day you board. If the answer is the person who wrote the proposal, you have a broker; if it is "the local agent", you have a desk. Then look at what comes back: two or three yachts whose weeks have been confirmed with the owners, each on four lines, base, VAT, APA and gratuity, so they compare on the same basis. Thirty yachts is a search result; three is a judgement, and the judgement is what the owner's commission pays for. Who you are dealing with. George Yachts Brokerage House LLC is a United States company, registered in Wyoming, with its brokerage desk in Athens, a few minutes from the marinas the yachts leave from. It is a boutique house: one broker, George P. Biniaris, Founder and Managing Broker, a licensed sailing skipper with a powerboat licence valid to 25 metres, handles every file himself, from the first message to the quay on check-in day, and is reachable on WhatsApp at +1 786 798 8798. The house is listed as an IYBA Charter Active Member, writes every charter on the MYBA form of agreement, was featured in Forbes in May 2026, and holds a 5.0 rating on Google. The APA, the VAT at each yacht's certified rate and the gratuity are set out line by line in every proposal, so nothing arrives as a surprise.

When to choose the broker for 2027

Before the yacht, in the autumn; the broker who reads your brief in October has first call on the owners' calendars for July. Peak weeks for July and August 2027 are being contracted now, in the autumn of 2026; the five and six cabin yachts go first. Nine to fourteen months ahead for a peak week, six to nine for June and late September, three to four for May and October. Booking early buys first choice of yacht and week rather than a discount.

George's insider notes

  • Ask for the contract form and the professional body listing in the first message; the answer takes a minute and tells you most of what you need.
  • Ask for the APA as a figure for your route, not a percentage; a broker who has run the route has the figure.
  • Ask for the yacht's certified VAT rate with the base; between 5.2 and 12 percent on EUR 17,000 lies EUR 1,150.
  • Ask who is on the quay at check-in and how many yachts you will receive; the two answers describe the house.

Frequently asked

Questions we get about How to Choose a Crewed Yacht Charter Broker in Greece

How do I choose a crewed yacht charter broker in Greece?

Five checks before the yacht: the MYBA Charter Agreement with the deposit held under its terms; an APA estimated for your route and settled against receipts; the yacht's own certified VAT rate printed on the proposal; one named broker from the first message to the quay; and two or three yachts that fit rather than a list of thirty.

Does a broker cost more than booking direct?

No. The owner's rate card is the same either way, because the broker is paid by the owner's side under the MYBA form; using a broker adds the comparison, the contract written for you and the person on the quay, at no cost above the card.

What should a crewed charter proposal contain?

Four lines for each yacht, the base fee, the VAT at her certified rate, the APA estimated for your route and the gratuity range; the crew list; and confirmation that her week is held with the owner. Two or three yachts on that basis compare in a minute.

How many yachts should a broker propose?

Two or three that fit the party, the month and the budget. A list of thirty means nobody read the brief; the broker's judgement is the product.

What is a red flag when choosing a charter broker?

A transfer to a personal account, a contract that is not the MYBA form, "plus expenses" in place of an APA figure, a VAT rate "to be confirmed", and "the local agent" on the quay instead of the person who wrote the proposal.

How do I start with this house?

WhatsApp +1 786 798 8798 or george@georgeyachts.com with the month and the party; two or three real yachts, each on four lines, reach you within twenty-four hours from the broker who will be on the quay.
