The connoisseur's month

Superyacht Charter Greece in September

The sea at its warmest, the Meltemi gone, the crowds gone, and most rate cards 15 to 25 percent below the peak: the month the owners keep for themselves.

Last updated September 2026

Why September is the month the owners keep

The sea has had all summer to warm. September's water is a degree warmer than July's, the air a degree cooler, the light lower and kinder, and the Meltemi is gone by the second week. The Cyclades, which in August are a question of wind and berths, become a question of which bay to swim in first. Mykonos is open and quiet; Santorini's caldera has room; Milos is empty at Kleftiko at nine in the morning. The rate cards know it, and so do the owners. Most cards step down 15 to 25 percent from the peak in the second half of the month, and the yachts that were impossible in August are open with six to nine months' notice. The owners who use their own yachts use them in September, which is the best review a month can have. What a September week looks like from this house. The Cyclades without compromise, Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, Ios, Santorini, Milos, or the Ionian before the first autumn showers, Corfu to Kefalonia, or a long Saronic and Peloponnese loop to Monemvasia. Two or three real yachts, the September rate on each card, the VAT, the APA estimate for the route, and the gratuity range, in writing, within twenty-four hours. Who you are dealing with. George Yachts Brokerage House LLC is a United States company, registered in Wyoming, with its brokerage desk in Athens, a few minutes from the marinas the yachts leave from. It is a boutique house: one broker, George P. Biniaris, Founder and Managing Broker, a licensed sailing skipper with a powerboat licence valid to 25 metres, handles every file himself, from the first message to the quay on check-in day, and is reachable on WhatsApp at +1 786 798 8798. The house is listed as an IYBA Charter Active Member, writes every charter on the MYBA form of agreement, was featured in Forbes in May 2026, and holds a 5.0 rating on Google. The APA, the VAT at each yacht's certified rate and the gratuity are set out line by line in every proposal, so nothing arrives as a surprise.

When September goes

The first half of September is contracted like August on the most requested yachts; the second half is the value and is decided six to nine months ahead. Peak weeks for July and August 2027 are being contracted now, in the autumn of 2026; the five and six cabin yachts go first. Nine to fourteen months ahead for a peak week, six to nine for June and late September, three to four for May and October. Booking early buys first choice of yacht and week rather than a discount.

George's insider notes

  • Ask for the second half of the month; the step-down on most cards begins mid-September.
  • Santorini's caldera is the September anchorage: no room in August, room in September, and the captain will take you in at six for the light.
  • The Ionian is at its best in the first three weeks; the autumn showers arrive late in the month.
  • September crews have a season behind them and are at their best; ask for the same crew that ran the yacht in July.
