Why the contract is in euros, and how to think in dollars anyway
Best suited for
- American families budgeting a first Greek week in dollars
- Parties comparing Greece against the Caribbean on the same currency
- Anyone who wants the deposit and the balance explained before the wire
- Americans who want a United States company behind the contract
When to decide for 2027, in dollars
The rate moves; the yacht's calendar moves faster. Peak weeks for July and August 2027 are being contracted now, in the autumn of 2026; the five and six cabin yachts go first. Nine to fourteen months ahead for a peak week, six to nine for June and late September, three to four for May and October. Booking early buys first choice of yacht and week rather than a discount.
George's insider notes
- Ask for the proposal in euros and dollars with the rate and its date; a dollar figure without a date is a guess.
- The deposit and the balance are wired on different days at different rates; budget the balance at a little above today's rate.
- The gratuity can be given in dollars; the crew will not mind the currency.
- Compare Greece against the Caribbean on the all-in week, not the base; the VAT and the APA differ by sea.
