What luxury means in Greek waters
Best suited for
- Milestone weeks: significant birthdays, anniversaries, a family gathering worth doing properly
- Charterers stepping up from the mid fleet who want to feel the difference crew density makes
- Two or three couples sharing the top tier and finding the arithmetic far gentler than they assumed
- Principals who want the yacht to feel like a residence, not a rental

The Honest Chapter
When the luxury tier is not the right call
When the top tier books
The luxury tier books earliest of the whole fleet, because there are only sixteen boats and the best two or three weeks of the summer are the same weeks for everyone. For peak July and August 2027, the conversation starts in autumn 2026. Early season (late April to mid-June) and late season (mid-September to October) are the connoisseur windows: the same yachts at 25 to 40% below peak, empty anchorages, and the light that photographers wait all year for. A luxury week is least itself in a crowded August bay, which is one more argument for the shoulder months.
Notes from George
- Ask about crew composition before you compare prices. A yacht with six crew for ten guests and a yacht with three crew for ten guests are different products, whatever the brochure says.
- The chef is the heart of the luxury tier. Send the preference sheet back detailed and honest, including what you dislike. A great chef builds the week around it.
- If your group is two or three couples, do the division before deciding the tier is out of reach. One yacht, one price, shared by the whole party: it often undercuts the row of suites you were about to book on land.
- Stabilisers matter more than length for comfort at anchor. If anyone aboard is sensitive to motion, say so and we will shortlist accordingly.
- The 12-passenger rule is law, not policy: a charter yacht carries at most 12 sleeping guests however large it is. Groups of more than 12 charter two yachts that sail together, or ELYSIUM, which is certified as a passenger ship.
Frequently asked
Questions we get about Luxury Yacht Charter Greece
How much does a luxury yacht charter in Greece cost per week?
The luxury tier of the fleet starts around €60,000 base per yacht per week for the large crewed sailing catamarans, runs €66,000 to €98,000 for the power catamarans and motor yachts, and €100,000 to €180,000 for the flagships. Base rate excludes APA (20 to 40% depending on yacht type), VAT at the yacht's certified rate and crew gratuity. Every rate is per yacht, fully crewed, never per person.
What is included in a luxury charter, and what is paid separately?
The base rate covers the yacht and the full professional crew for the week. Food, drink, fuel and port fees run through the APA, an advance the captain accounts for openly. VAT is invoiced at the yacht's certified rate, typically 6.5-12% in Greece. A gratuity of 10 to 15% of the base rate is customary at the end of a good week and always at your discretion.
Luxury motor yacht or luxury sailing catamaran, how do I choose?
Motor yachts buy speed and interior volume: more marble, more cabins with sea views, stabilisers at anchor, and the range to do Mykonos to Santorini in a morning. The big sailing catamarans buy space on the water, shallow bays the deep-draft boats cannot enter, and the particular silence of travelling under sail. Price bands overlap; the choice is temperament, not budget.
How far ahead should I book a luxury yacht in Greece?
For peak July and August weeks, nine to twelve months ahead; the sixteen-yacht tier thins out fast once the season's first enquiries land. Early and late season can often be arranged three to six months out, and occasionally closer, because the tier's clientele concentrates on the school-holiday weeks.
Can we charter a luxury yacht in Greece for more than 12 guests?
Not on one hull, with one exception. Greek and international rules cap a charter yacht at 12 sleeping guests regardless of size. Larger groups either take two yachts cruising in company, which works beautifully for extended families, or ELYSIUM, an 85-metre vessel certified as a passenger ship and chartered whole.
Which islands suit a luxury charter best?
The honest answer is that the yacht matters more than the postcode, but three patterns hold. The Cyclades deliver the marquee names and the Meltemi-tested crews. The Saronic Gulf is the connoisseur circuit: short hops, protected water, Hydra at dusk. The Ionian gives the calmest seas and the greenest anchorages, and suits first-time luxury charterers best.
