FREEDOM, an Alalunga 78 that stays level at anchor
FREEDOM was built by Spertini Alalunga in Italy in 2007 and refitted in 2021. The thing that matters most about her is not visible in a photograph: she has stabilisers that work both under way and at zero speed, so the boat stays level at anchor when the afternoon wind pushes a swell into the bay.
Her interior is modern, and her cabins are spacious for a yacht of 24 metres.
Up to ten guests in four cabins
Two doubles and two twins, both twins convertible to doubles, all en suite, for up to ten guests. That flexibility is what makes her work for two families, with the children in the twins. Her crew of four, a captain, a chef, a stewardess and a deckhand, live in separate quarters.
Her toy box is deep: an e-foil, a Seabob, a Sea-Doo jet ski, a Hobie Mirage Eclipse sea bike, a Naish paddleboard, an inflatable windsurf rig, water skis, a wakeboard, a kneeboard, trainer skis for beginners, fishing rods, and a 4.2 metre Oceanic tender with a 60 horsepower Yamaha. There are portable sunbeds and umbrellas for the swim platform, and an inflatable sofa for the water.
Where she belongs
The Cyclades, at twenty three knots. Andros on the first day, Mykonos and Delos next, then Paros, Sifnos and Kythnos on the way home, with no passage longer than about two and a half hours. At cruise she burns 420 litres an hour, which is the honest cost of that range.

Ninety minutes under way. Mykonos is loud and it is worth one night of it, with the beach clubs on the south shore in the afternoon.

The whole island is an archaeological site and no one has lived here since antiquity. Reckon on half an hour from the last berth.

Delos→Paros (Naoussa)
Forty minutes at her cruising speed. The marble here built half of classical Athens, and the quarries are still open to walk into.

Paros (Naoussa)→Sifnos (Vathi)
The island's potters still work the clay, and the food is the reason Athenians come here in August. An hour and a quarter on passage at 23 knots.

Sifnos (Vathi)→Kythnos (Kolona)
Ninety minutes under way. Kolona is a sandbar with sea on both sides, and the boat lies to an anchor off it.
