WHY NOT, a Dominator 780 S refitted in 2024
WHY NOT is a 23 metre Italian motor yacht with the engines of a much bigger boat: two MAN V12s of 1,800 horsepower each. She cruises at twenty six knots and touches thirty one, and that is the whole character of the week she offers.
She was refitted in 2024. The Dominator 780 S is drawn around big panoramic windows that bring the sea into the saloon, and her interior is finished in marble, wood and fine fabrics.
Six guests, deliberately
Three cabins: a master, a VIP and a twin that converts to a double, all en suite, with a smart TV in each. Six guests is a small number for a 23 metre yacht, and that is the point. Her crew of four, a captain, a chef, a stewardess and a deckhand, looks after three couples rather than a crowd.
Forward there is a lounge with a jacuzzi, and Starlink keeps everyone connected. For the water there is a Williams jet tender, a jet ski, two Seabobs, water skis, a wakeboard and snorkelling gear.
Where she belongs
Anywhere in the Cyclades, including the islands a slower boat has to give up. At twenty six knots Kythnos is under two hours from Athens, Milos to the Santorini caldera is a two hour run, and Mykonos and Syros are forty minutes apart. The trade is fuel: 430 litres an hour at cruise, which is worth knowing on day one.
For three couples who want the whole Cyclades, Santorini included, in a single week and in real comfort, she is the yacht.

Athens (Alimos)→Kythnos (Kolona)
The hot springs at Loutra run into the sea, so you can find the temperature you want by moving a metre. Just under two hours on passage at 26 knots.
- Day 2· 43 NM
Kythnos (Kolona)→Milos (Adamas)
Just under two hours under way. Milos was mined for obsidian before anybody wrote anything down, and the colours in the rock explain why.
- Day 3· 51 NM
Milos (Adamas)→Santorini (the caldera)
The caldera is a drowned volcano and the boat lies in the middle of it, eight hundred feet of water underneath. Reckon on two hours from the last berth.
- Day 4· 41 NM
Santorini (the caldera)→Naxos (Chora)
Ninety minutes at her cruising speed. Naxos is the biggest of the Cyclades and the only one that farms seriously, so the food is grown here.
- Day 5· 19 NM
Naxos (Chora)→Mykonos (Ornos)
Mykonos is loud and it is worth one night of it, with the beach clubs on the south shore in the afternoon. Forty minutes on passage at 26 knots.

Mykonos (Ornos)→Syros (Ermoupoli)
Forty minutes under way. Ermoupoli was the biggest port in Greece before Piraeus was, and the town hall and the opera house prove it.

Syros (Ermoupoli)→Athens (Alimos)
Home to Alimos with the day still in front of you, bags packed at leisure in the morning. Reckon on three hours from the last berth.
