Catamaran in Naxos
Catamaran Charter Naxos
The under-discovered Cyclades catamaran base. Bigger island, quieter anchorages, central position for the southern Cyclades loop.
Why Naxos is the smart Cyclades catamaran base
Best suited for
- Families wanting the Cycladic experience without August Mykonos chaos
- Repeat Cyclades charterers exploring the Small Cyclades
- Late-booking charterers (Naxos has inventory when others don't)
- Two-couple catamaran weeks looking for quieter anchorages
- Photography-focused weeks (Small Cyclades are unphotographed)
When to book
June and September are the Naxos sweet spots. July and August still book but with 3-4 months lead time (vs Mykonos's 9-month requirement). May and October are surprisingly viable — Naxos's larger landmass keeps the island lively into the shoulder seasons.
George's insider notes
- Anchor at Plaka Beach (south Naxos) for the longest sandy beach in the Cyclades. Walk-able from the anchorage.
- Day-trip Koufonisia for Pori Beach lunch — the bluest water in the Cyclades, accessible only by yacht/private boat.
- Naxos chora has the most-substantial restaurant scene of any Cycladic island after Mykonos. Eat ashore freely.
- Iraklia and Donoussa (Small Cyclades) are uninhabited-feeling outposts. Anchor for one night each — the disconnect is the value.
- Catamaran chartering Naxos sees Meltemi but less intensely than Mykonos. The island's bulk creates a wind shadow on the south coast.
Frequently asked
About catamaran charter naxos
How much does a Naxos catamaran charter cost?
Weekly rates €28-50K for 12-15m catamarans, €55-95K for 16-20m luxury catamarans. APA 30-35% on top. 10-15% cheaper than equivalent Mykonos catamarans because of lower marina costs.
Is Naxos boring compared to Mykonos?
Different. Naxos has substance — a real Greek island with year-round population, restaurants, beaches, archaeology. Mykonos has scene — beach clubs, parties, restaurant choreography. Naxos suits families and repeat Cyclades visitors; Mykonos suits party-energy groups.
Can we reach Mykonos and Santorini from Naxos?
Yes. Mykonos is 20 nm north (2.5 hours by catamaran), Santorini is 50 nm south (6 hours). A 10-day Naxos-based charter handles both with the Small Cyclades in between.
What's special about the Small Cyclades?
Empty. Koufonisia, Schoinoussa, Iraklia, Donoussa are uninhabited-feeling, all 5-15 nm from Naxos, accessible mainly by yacht. The Small Cyclades are the Cycladic photography most charterers never see.
