George's Inside Info

EFFIE STAR puts ten people on a 2025 catamaran with a crew, and I say ten with the fifth cabin in mind: it shares a bathroom, so give it to the children. With two crew the week feels personal rather than staffed, and that is exactly what her guests remember. Stay in the Saronic, take the tender into Hydra rather than fighting for a place on the quay, and spend a night off Epidaurus for the theatre.

The Yacht in Detail

EFFIE STAR, a 2025 Lagoon 51 that takes ten

EFFIE STAR was launched in 2025, and she is the five cabin version of the Lagoon 51: four doubles with their own bathrooms, and a fifth French double that shares one. That fifth cabin is what lets a fifty one foot catamaran take ten guests.

Be clear about that cabin. It suits two children, or two friends happy to share a bathroom, better than it suits a couple who expected their own. For eight guests she is roomy, and for ten she is sociable.

Two crew, and what that means

A captain, and a cook who is also the hostess, both in their own quarters. The notes her 2025 guests left behind say, more than once, that the two of them were the reason the week worked.

The flybridge gives a panoramic view, the swim platform opens the stern to the water, and there is a barbecue, air conditioning, a water maker and Wi-Fi. The toy box is full: a Highfield tender with a 40 horsepower outboard, two sea scooters, paddleboards, water skis, a wakeboard, a kneeboard, a banana and a tube.

Where she belongs

The Saronic, at eight knots on twenty five litres an hour: Aegina, Hydra, Ermioni, Poros and a night off Epidaurus, with the ancient theatre a short drive inland. It is the right water for a boat of her pace and for a week that should feel like a holiday rather than a voyage.

For a family of up to ten, or a couple who want a new catamaran and a crew of two, she is the easy choice.

A Sample 7-Day Route

What a week aboard S/CAT EFFIE STAR can look like

Total: 119 NM

  1. Day 1· 17 NM

    Athens (Alimos)Aegina (Agia Marina)

Agia Marina sits on the east coast facing the sunrise, with a beach you can swim to off the stern. Two hours on passage at 8 knots.

  2. Day 2· 29 NM

    Aegina (Agia Marina)Hydra

Three and a half hours under way. The harbour is small and the captains' houses climb the hill behind it, built on eighteenth century shipping money.

  3. Day 3· 11 NM

    HydraErmioni

Two harbours, one on each side of the headland, so there is always a lee. Reckon on an hour and a quarter from the last berth.

  4. Day 4· 12 NM

    ErmioniPoros

Ninety minutes at her cruising speed. The channel between Poros and the mainland is a hundred metres wide, and the town sits on both sides of it.

  5. Day 5· 19 NM

    PorosEpidaurus

Anchor here and the ancient theatre is a short drive inland, the acoustics still intact. Two and a half hours on passage at 8 knots.

  6. Day 6· 15 NM

    EpidaurusAegina Town

Just under two hours under way. A working island harbour with a nineteenth century waterfront, and pistachios sold off the quay.

  7. Day 7· 16 NM

    Aegina TownAthens (Alimos)

Back on her berth by the afternoon, so the last evening is dinner in town rather than a passage. Reckon on two hours from the last berth.
