George's Inside Info

Northwind II is the aristocrat of the classics I place: 1966 Camper & Nicholsons steel, 46 metres, nine crew for ten guests - a specification that no longer exists at any price when built new. Her 2022 refit kept the soul and renewed the systems. She is the right answer when the week IS the statement: I have seen hardened superyacht owners go quiet stepping aboard. 83,300 to 110,000 euros per week, and worth every conversation she starts.

The Yacht in Detail

M/Y Northwind II was launched in 1966 from the Camper & Nicholsons shipyard in Southampton - the yard whose name has meant yachting since 1782 - and she remains what she was built to be: a gentleman's motor yacht of nearly forty-six metres, maintained without sentimentality and without shortcuts, most recently through her 2022 refit.

Boats like her are not produced anymore because they cannot be: the plate-by-plate hull, the sheer of her deckline, brightwork measured in decades of care. In a bay of white production hulls she is the one the binoculars find.

Ten Guests, Nine Crew

Ten guests take five cabins; a crew of nine - full department structure with chief engineer and chief officer - delivers the service standard her class of yacht has always assumed. That is a crew ratio modern boats twice her price rarely match.

The Long, Slow, Perfect Week

At twelve knots her wake is a signature written across the gulf. Decks run the length of a tennis court; dinner happens under the original davits with the harbour lights coming up. Chartering her is closer to borrowing a piece of maritime history than renting a boat.

Tender runs, paddleboards, snorkelling and ski kit cover the daylight hours; her real toy is the boat herself.

Where She Makes Sense

Northwind II is for hosts: the significant birthday, the gathering of families, the week where the yacht must say something no new hull can. She takes the Saronic and Ionian in state, and every evening aboard feels like an occasion because it is one.
