George's Inside Info

OAK is what I recommend when a family of eleven has to fit and nobody wants to pay for a 40 metre to do it. A 2005 Benetti refitted in 2025 is the value play of this fleet: the volume of a bigger yacht, the running costs of a smaller one. She runs 99,000 to 109,000 euros per week.

The Yacht in Detail

M/Y OAK is a 35 metre Benetti from 2005, refitted again in 2025, and she is one of the calmest yachts in this fleet to spend a week aboard. Twelve knots of cruise and fourteen at the top, on 247 gross tons: a displacement-minded hull that turns fuel into stillness instead of speed.

Eleven Guests, Eight Crew

Five cabins take eleven guests, which is one more than most yachts of her length manage, and a crew of eight looks after them. That is a full-service ratio, chef and stewardesses included, on a hull small enough to enter the harbours the bigger boats have to admire from outside.

Why the Older Hull Is the Better Buy

A 2005 Benetti with a 2025 refit gives you Italian build quality and current interiors at a rate a new hull of the same volume could not approach. Excellent stability, generous volumes, and the low consumption that makes the advance provisioning allowance behave itself over seven days.

The Week She Is Built For

Multi-generational family weeks. Eleven berths, a crew that can run children's meals and an adult dinner service in the same evening, and a cruising speed that lets grandparents sleep through the passage. The Saronic and the near Cyclades are her natural water.

A Sample 7-Day Route

What a week aboard M/Y OAK can look like

Total: 207 NM

  1. Day 1· 22 NM

    Athens (Alimos)Cape Sounion

Just under two hours under way. Byron carved his name into one of the columns, and the sunset from the water is the reason to be here rather than in the car park.

  2. Day 2· 22 NM

    Cape SounionKythnos (Kolona)

Kolona is a sandbar with sea on both sides, and the boat lies to an anchor off it. Reckon on just under two hours from the last berth.

  3. Day 3· 33 NM

    Kythnos (Kolona)Sifnos (Vathi)

Three hours at her cruising speed. Vathi is a closed bay with a sand bottom, a pottery village ashore and holding you can trust.

  4. Day 4· 30 NM

    Sifnos (Vathi)Paros (Naoussa)

Naoussa for dinner and Kolymbithres for the afternoon, twenty minutes apart by tender. Two and a half hours on passage at 12 knots.

  5. Day 5· 35 NM

    Paros (Naoussa)Serifos (Livadi)

Three hours under way. The chora sits straight above Livadi harbour, whitewash stacked up a rock face.

  6. Day 6· 32 NM

    Serifos (Livadi)Kea (Vourkari)

The first of the Cyclades and the closest to Athens, oak covered rather than bare rock. Reckon on two and a half hours from the last berth.

  7. Day 7· 33 NM

    Kea (Vourkari)Athens (Alimos)

Three hours at her cruising speed. The run back up the coast, Athens on the bow, and the last night alongside.
