Which boat charter this page means
Best suited for
- Americans who typed boat and want the crewed week the word means here
- Families of six to ten on a catamaran with a chef and flat water
- Groups of eight to twelve sharing one weekly price
- Parties who want speed: a motor boat for the Cyclades at 20 knots
- Anyone who wants a boat without a licence, a chart or a shopping list
When to charter a boat in Greece
July and August commit six to twelve months ahead on the Index, and the five and six cabin boats go first. June and September are 15 to 25 percent below peak on the same rate card, with warm water and lighter wind. May and October suit the Saronic and the Ionian. Weeks start on any day; the season runs late April to late October.
Notes from George
- If the party wants one day on the water, this is not the page; if it wants a week with a crew, the floor is EUR 17,000 and about 22,000 all in.
- Buy the crew before the length: a chef and a stewardess change the week more than four extra metres of boat.
- Twelve is the legal maximum aboard, whatever the brochure sleeps; count the party before the boat.
- Ask for the four lines in writing before you compare two boats: base, APA, the VAT rate on her certificate, gratuity range.
- A catamaran for the family, a motor boat for distance, a sailing yacht for the sailing. Decide what the week is for, then the boat follows.
Frequently asked
Questions we get about Boat Charter Greece, Crewed by the Week
How much does it cost to charter a boat in Greece for a week?
From EUR 17,000 net base per boat per week for a 15 metre crewed sailing catamaran, about EUR 22,000 all in with APA and VAT; from EUR 17,500 for a crewed motor boat of 18 to 21 metres, about EUR 24,000 all in. The Index then runs 18,900 to 48,000 for a 16 to 19 metre catamaran, 31,500 to 43,500 at 20 to 22 metres, 35,900 to 75,000 for a 26 to 31 metre motor yacht. Per boat, never per head.
Can I charter a boat in Greece for a day?
Day boats exist in Greece through local operators, priced per day with VAT at 24 percent. This house does not broker them. The shortest programme it writes is the five-night Saronic week from Athens, with the boat and her crew for your party alone.
Do I need a licence to charter a boat in Greece?
Not for a crewed boat; the captain holds the licence and the responsibility. A licence is required only for a bareboat, the hull alone, which is a different product at 24 percent VAT and is not arranged here.
What kind of boats are on the list?
91 fully crewed boats: 30 sailing catamarans of 15 to 24 metres, 15 power catamarans of 16 to 24 metres and 46 motor yachts of 19 to 64 metres, every one with her own rate card and 66 of them with a walkthrough video filmed aboard. Six crewed sailing monohulls of 24 to 31 metres are quoted separately.
What is the APA on a boat charter?
The Advance Provisioning Allowance: a deposit of 20 to 30 percent of the base on a sailing boat or catamaran and 30 to 40 percent on a motor boat, paid before boarding, from which the captain buys fuel, food, drink, berths and port dues at cost. The receipts are shown and the unspent balance is returned at the end of the week.
Where do crewed boat charters start in Greece?
Athens, at Alimos or Flisvos marina, for the Saronic and the Cyclades, where all but a handful of the boats on this list are based; Lefkada or Corfu for the Ionian. Any day of the week can be the boarding day.
