Yachts for rent in Greece, with their crews
When to rent
July and August commit six to twelve months ahead, and the five and six cabin catamarans go first. June and September rent 15 to 25 percent below peak on the same rate card, with warm water and less wind. May and October suit the Saronic and the Ionian, the two sheltered grounds. The season runs late April to late October; weeks start on any day.
Notes from George
- Rent the crew before the length. A three-crew 18 metre catamaran with a chef is a different week from a two-crew 22 metre with a cook-hostess at the same money.
- Ask for four lines in writing before you compare two yachts: base, APA, the VAT rate on her certificate, gratuity range.
- A yacht that rents at EUR 17,000 base lands at about EUR 22,000 all in; budget on the all-in figure, not the headline.
- The APA is yours: unspent money comes back at the end of the week against the captain's receipts.
- If you want to steer, say so. The captain will put you on the wheel in open water; the licence and the responsibility stay his.
Frequently asked
Questions we get about Yacht Rental Greece, Crewed by the Week
How much does it cost to rent a yacht in Greece for a week?
From EUR 17,000 net base per yacht per week for a 15 metre crewed sailing catamaran, about EUR 22,000 all in with APA and VAT, and from EUR 17,500 for a crewed motor yacht of 18 to 21 metres, about EUR 24,000 all in. Larger yachts on the Index: 20 to 22 metre catamarans EUR 31,500 to 43,500, 26 to 31 metre motor yachts 35,900 to 75,000, 35 to 40 metres 59,900 to 150,000. Per yacht, never per head.
Is yacht rental the same as yacht charter?
Yes. Rental, hire and charter describe the same contract, the MYBA charter agreement, under which the whole yacht and her crew are placed at your party's disposal for the week. The word that matters on the contract is crewed: the licence, the navigation and the cooking belong to the crew.
Do I need a licence to rent a yacht in Greece?
Not for a crewed yacht. The captain holds the licence and the responsibility. A licence is required only for a bareboat, the hull alone, which is a different product at 24 percent VAT and is not arranged by this house.
Can I rent a yacht in Greece for a day?
Day rentals exist in Greece through local operators, priced per day with VAT at 24 percent. This house does not broker them. The shortest programme it writes is the five-night Saronic week from Athens, with the yacht and her crew for your party alone.
What is included in the rental price?
The yacht, her crew, their wages and the yacht's insurance. On top sit the APA for fuel, food, drink, berths and port dues, paid at cost against receipts with the balance returned, Greek VAT at the yacht's certified rate, and the crew gratuity of 10 to 15 percent of the base at your discretion.
How many people can rent a yacht together?
Twelve guests is the legal maximum on a charter yacht in Greece, whatever her size. The catamarans on this list sleep eight to twelve in four to six cabins; the 26 to 31 metre motor yachts ten to twelve. One price per yacht, so twelve sharing is the gentlest arithmetic.
