George's Inside Info

DAIQUIRI is the catamaran for the family that asks what there is to do. Four crew means the deckhand can run the tender and the toys all afternoon while the chef and the hostess keep the boat going, and on a smaller catamaran that simply is not possible. Put the youngest pair in the bunk cabin, and give Delos a morning rather than an afternoon, because nobody stays the night there and the heat builds by midday. At ten knots she does the central Cyclades well. Ask me before planning a week that stretches to Santorini.

The Yacht in Detail

DAIQUIRI, a Lagoon Sixty 5 and the step above sixty feet

There is a step in catamarans between sixty feet and sixty five, and DAIQUIRI is on the far side of it. Launched in 2022 and 20.55 metres long, she has a flybridge with forty square metres of lounging space and teak underfoot, before you count the aft deck or the bow.

The interior is built around light. Wide windows run the length of the saloon, and the cabins take more daylight than a hull of this kind usually lets in.

Ten guests and a crew of four

Four double cabins and a fifth with bunks, all air-conditioned and all en suite, which is the layout a family with children or teenagers actually needs. The crew is four: a captain, a chef, a hostess and a deckhand. That fourth pair of hands is the difference between toys that are on board and toys that are in the water.

And there are plenty of them: water skis, a wakeboard, a kayak, paddleboards, two sea scooters, towables, and a 4.6 metre tender with a 60 horsepower Honda. There is a PlayStation 5 in the saloon for the evening the teenagers declare a night in.

Where she belongs

The central Cyclades. She cruises at ten knots on fifty litres an hour, which reaches Paros and Delos from Athens in legs that finish by mid-afternoon, and her length is what you want under you when the summer wind fills in.

The notes her 2025 guests left behind talk mostly about the chef and the crew. For a family of ten who want every toy and a crew large enough to run them, she is the one.

A Sample 7-Day Route

What a week aboard S/CAT DAIQUIRI can look like

Total: 193 NM

  1. Day 1· 22 NM

    Athens (Alimos)Cape Sounion

Byron carved his name into one of the columns, and the sunset from the water is the reason to be here rather than in the car park. Reckon on two and a half hours from the last berth.

  2. Day 2· 22 NM

    Cape SounionKythnos (Kolona)

Two and a half hours at her cruising speed. Kolona is a sandbar with sea on both sides, and the boat lies to an anchor off it.

  3. Day 3· 45 NM

    Kythnos (Kolona)Paros (Naoussa)

The marble here built half of classical Athens, and the quarries are still open to walk into. Four and a half hours on passage at 10 knots.

  4. Day 4· 16 NM

    Paros (Naoussa)Delos

Ninety minutes under way. You cannot stay the night on Delos, so you come by day, which is what a yacht is for.

  5. Day 5· 16 NM

    DelosSyros (Ermoupoli)

Ermoupoli was the biggest port in Greece before Piraeus was, and the town hall and the opera house prove it. Reckon on ninety minutes from the last berth.

  6. Day 6· 39 NM

    Syros (Ermoupoli)Kea (Vourkari)

Four hours at her cruising speed. The first of the Cyclades and the closest to Athens, oak covered rather than bare rock.

  7. Day 7· 33 NM

    Kea (Vourkari)Athens (Alimos)

The run back up the coast, Athens on the bow, and the last night alongside. Three and a half hours on passage at 10 knots.
