When to book

June and September are optimal. July and August Fiscardo and Assos fill rapidly — the photogenic restaurants need 48-hour reservations. May and October the Ionian holds longer than the Aegean — Kefalonia is sailable through mid-October most years.

  • Anchor in Foki Bay (1 nm south of Fiscardo) and tender into Fiscardo. Avoid the Fiscardo Mediterranean-mooring scrum.
  • Assos has one quay slot for medium-size yachts. Reserve via the harbourmaster 24h ahead or anchor in the small bay outside the village.
  • Myrtos Beach is no-anchorage (no holding, exposed). Drop anchor 200m offshore, swim/tender ashore, take photos, leave by mid-afternoon.
  • Ithaca's Vathy is too big and motor-yacht-friendly. Frikes (north Ithaca) is the sailor's overnight — smaller, quieter, the village dog adopts you for the evening.
  • Robola wine (Kefalonia's native grape) is the Ionian's best white. Buy 6 bottles at the Argostoli market for the week.
