Lefkada is the largest Ionian charter base, but Kefalonia is the destination Lefkada-based sailors travel to. The northern Kefalonian coast - Fiscardo, Assos, Myrtos Beach - is the most-photographed stretch of the Ionian Sea, and every 7-day Ionian sailing week visits these three. Chartering directly from Kefalonia skips the Lefkada-to-Kefalonia transit day and gives you immediate access. Fiscardo is the Ionian's flagship village - pastel houses, Venetian architecture, four good restaurants, Mediterranean-mooring quay. Assos is the smaller, more atmospheric option - a peninsula with a Venetian fortress at the tip and ten houses curved around a tiny harbour. Myrtos Beach is the photograph everyone knows - chalk-white pebbles, electric-blue water, the Cliffs of Pelekas backdrop. A 7-day Kefalonia-based sailing week runs Kefalonia (Argostoli) → Ithaca (Vathy or Frikes) → Kefalonia (Fiscardo) → Kefalonia (Assos) → Lefkada (Sivota or Vasiliki) → Meganisi → Kefalonia. When to book

June and September are optimal. July and August Fiscardo and Assos fill rapidly - the photogenic restaurants need 48-hour reservations. May and October the Ionian holds longer than the Aegean - Kefalonia is sailable through mid-October most years.

George's insider notes

Anchor in Foki Bay (1 nm south of Fiscardo) and tender into Fiscardo. Avoid the Fiscardo Mediterranean-mooring scrum.
Assos has one quay slot for medium-size yachts. Reserve via the harbourmaster 24h ahead or anchor in the small bay outside the village.
Myrtos Beach is no-anchorage (no holding, exposed). Drop anchor 200m offshore, swim/tender ashore, take photos, leave by mid-afternoon.
Ithaca's Vathy is too big and motor-yacht-friendly. Frikes (north Ithaca) is the sailor's overnight - smaller, quieter, the village dog adopts you for the evening.
Robola wine (Kefalonia's native grape) is the Ionian's best white. Buy 6 bottles at the Argostoli market for the week.
