Superyacht from Athens

Superyacht Charter Athens

The 40-metre-plus charter departure from Greece. Heesen, Benetti, Custom Line, Lürssen, Alimos to anywhere.

Why the Athens superyacht fleet is Greece's UHNW market

The Greek shipping families berth their personal yachts in Flisvos Marina (Athens, immediately south of Alimos). When those yachts charter commercially they appear in our brokerage feed — 48 to 95 metres, 8 to 12 cabins, 16 to 28 crew, helipad more often than not, chef trained at Le Cordon Bleu or El Bulli alumni. This is the Mediterranean's quietest superyacht market; it doesn't advertise, it doesn't list, it works through brokers who hold direct relationships with the captains. A 50-metre superyacht week from Athens reaches anywhere in Greek waters in 12 hours of overnight steaming. Most charters use overnight passages to wake up at the next destination: Athens to Mykonos overnight, Mykonos to Santorini overnight, Santorini back to Athens with a daylight stop at Hydra. The vessel runs 24-hour watches; the principals are unaware of the transit. The Athens superyacht fleet differs from Monaco or St. Tropez in one critical way: older Greek-built provenance. The Onassis, Niarchos, Latsis, Vardinoyannis families commissioned superyachts in the 1960s through 1990s; the survivors have been refit twice and now charter at €250-€800K per week. The newer 2010+ Italian (Benetti, Sanlorenzo) and Dutch (Heesen, Feadship) builds run €400K-€1.2M.

Best suited for

  • Principals chartering 40m+ for the first time (Athens has the broadest fleet)
  • Royal families and C-suite executives needing helipad-equipped vessels
  • Multi-week summer programmes with port-of-departure flexibility
  • Charters combining Greek waters with Italian (Capri, Sardinia) crossings
  • Discrete UHNW principals avoiding St. Tropez visibility

When to book

Bookings for 40m+ superyachts open 12-24 months ahead. The Mediterranean superyacht season runs mid-May through end-September; outside that window most vessels reposition to the Caribbean or undergo refit. July and August are the peak booking months; these vessels sell weeks out 18 months ahead. June and September are the discretionary windows: better pricing, vessel selection still excellent, principals avoiding the August Mediterranean crush.

George's insider notes

  • Flisvos Marina is the superyacht berth (not Alimos for 40m+). Helicopter transfers from Athens airport land at the marina helipad directly.
  • Brief the captain on principal preferences 60 days pre-charter: provisioning, beverages, security detail, communications setup. The captain coordinates with the principal's chief of staff.
  • Most superyachts carry **2 tenders, 1 helicopter (if helipad), 12-20 toys** (jet skis, sea-bobs, paddleboards, water trampolines, diving compressors). Confirm the toy list at booking.
  • Cabin allocation matters on multi-family charters. The master suite + VIP + 4 doubles is the standard 50m layout. Brief George on the principal hierarchy.
  • Greek-flagged vessels under 35m can charter freely; 35m+ Greek-flagged or any foreign-flagged vessel needs a charter permit. George handles the paperwork.

About superyacht charter athens

How much does an Athens superyacht charter cost?

Weekly rates €250K for 40-metre motor yachts and €1.2M+ for 80-metre Lürssen or Feadship superyachts. APA 30-35% on top, Greek VAT 12-24% depending on itinerary. Typical 50-metre week settles €500-800K base.

What's included in a superyacht charter?

The charter fee covers vessel, full crew (12-28 people), insurance, mooring at base marina. APA covers fuel, food, beverages, port fees, marina dockage. VAT is on top. Excludes crew gratuity (typically 15-20% of base) and excursions ashore.

Can we use a helicopter from the yacht?

Yes if the yacht has a certified helipad (most 60m+ vessels do). Greek helipad certifications require pre-flight notification through HCAA. George handles the coordination.

Which Athens superyachts are available for August 2026?

Live availability changes weekly. The 40-50m segment typically has 4-6 yachts open for August 2026 as of May 2026; the 60-80m segment is mostly committed by now. George's broker network surfaces unlisted availability.
