Athens departures

Yacht Charter Athens

The home port of the Greek crewed fleet: board at Alimos or Flisvos and the Saronic, the Cyclades and the whole Aegean open from the first afternoon.

Last updated September 2026

Why Athens is the departure for most crewed weeks

The fleet lives here. Nearly every crewed yacht in Greece winters and provisions at Alimos or Flisvos, which is why an Athens start is the one that needs no positioning leg and no positioning fee: the yacht is at her own berth, the crew has shopped that morning, and you are under way an hour after you step aboard. A Mykonos or Santorini start is the same yacht after a 90 to 120 mile delivery that the owner quotes per yacht. Three grounds open from one marina. South from Alimos is the Saronic, Aegina at 18 nautical miles, Poros 25, Hydra 35 and Spetses 50, the calm week that fits a family and the five-night programme. East is Cape Sounion at 22 miles and then the Cyclades: Kea 35, Kythnos 45, Syros, Mykonos at 90 and Paros at 95, the Meltemi ground from late June. A week can also run west through the Corinth Canal to the Ionian for the yachts that suit it, though this house normally boards the Ionian at [Lefkada](/yacht-charter-lefkada) or [Corfu](/yacht-charter-corfu). The arithmetic is the same as everywhere in Greece. One price per yacht per week with the crew, from EUR 17,000 for a 15 metre catamaran, about EUR 22,000 all in with APA and VAT, and the full [crewed yacht charter in Greece](/crewed-yacht-charter-greece) terms apply: the APA pays fuel, food, drink and berths at cost and returns what is unspent, Greek VAT is invoiced at the yacht's own certified rate, and the crew gratuity of 10 to 15 percent of the base stays at your discretion.

Best suited for

  • Americans landing at Athens on the overnight flight and boarding the same afternoon
  • Families who want the calm Saronic week, 18 to 50 nautical miles from the marina
  • Groups of eight to twelve who want the Cyclades without a delivery fee
  • First-time charterers: the shortest legs, the most sheltered anchorages, the city at the end
  • Parties who want two or three days in Athens before or after the week

When to book an Athens departure

Late July and August commit six to twelve months ahead on the Index, and the five and six cabin boats go first. June and September price 15 to 25 percent below peak on the same rate card, with the Saronic water warm by mid June and the Meltemi easing in September. May and October are the Saronic months: short legs, open tavernas, the Cyclades too windy for most parties. Any day of the week can be the boarding day.

Notes from George

  • Board in the afternoon and sleep the first night at anchor off Aegina or under the temple at Sounion; the marina is not where the week should begin.
  • Ask for a yacht whose own berth is Alimos or Flisvos. A yacht brought round from elsewhere carries a delivery fee that a local one does not.
  • The Saronic is the right answer for a first week and for children under eight: no leg over three hours, a lee for every wind.
  • For the Cyclades, read the Meltemi forecast with the captain before fixing the order of the islands; the route runs with the wind, not against it.
  • Keep the last morning free. The crew hands you your bags at the marina, and the airport is 40 minutes away by road.

Frequently asked

Questions we get about Yacht Charter Athens

How much does a yacht charter from Athens cost for a week?

From EUR 17,000 net base per yacht per week for a 15 metre crewed sailing catamaran, about EUR 22,000 all in with APA and VAT, and from EUR 17,500 for an 18 to 21 metre crewed motor yacht, about EUR 24,000 all in. The Index bands then run 18,900 to 48,000 for a 16 to 19 metre catamaran, 31,500 to 43,500 at 20 to 22 metres, 35,900 to 75,000 for a 26 to 31 metre motor yacht and 59,900 to 150,000 at 35 to 40 metres. One price per yacht, whatever the size of the party.

Where do yacht charters leave from in Athens?

Alimos marina, also called Kalamaki, on the coast south of the city, and Flisvos marina at Palaio Faliro for the larger motor yachts. Both are about 40 minutes from the airport by road. Nea Peramos, west of Piraeus, is the base of a few yachts and is used for a Saronic or Corinth Canal start.

Is there a positioning fee for an Athens start?

No. All but a handful of the yachts on this list are based at Athens, so an Athens boarding is the yacht at her own berth. A Mykonos, Paros or Santorini boarding means a delivery of 90 to 120 nautical miles each way, quoted per yacht by the owner.

Which islands can we reach in a week from Athens?

The Saronic in a week or the five-night programme: Aegina 18 nautical miles from Alimos, Poros 25, Hydra 35, Spetses 50. The western Cyclades in a week: Kea 35, Kythnos 45, Serifos, Sifnos, Milos, with Syros and Mykonos at 90 on a longer loop. A Santorini finale needs ten days or a one-way week with the delivery back quoted per yacht.

Can we charter a sailing yacht from Athens?

Yes. The crewed sailing catamarans on this list are based at Alimos, from EUR 17,000 a week at 15 metres to 90,000 at 24, and the crewed sailing monohulls of 24 to 31 metres run EUR 24,000 to 55,000. The Saronic and the Cyclades both sail from Athens; the Ionian boards at Lefkada or Corfu.

Can we do a three-day charter from Athens?

Not as a stand-alone charter. The shortest programme this house writes is the five-night Saronic week from Alimos, priced by the owner from the weekly rate. Day cruises and short hires exist in Athens through other operators at 24 percent VAT and are not arranged here.

How far is Alimos marina from Athens airport?

About 40 minutes by road outside the rush hours. A transfer is arranged for the party and the luggage goes straight to the yacht.
